Swedish Olympic Committee President Mats Årjes believes that the Stockholm Åre 2026 bid is ideally placed to deliver a forward-thinking and sustainable Winter Games in line with the Olympic movement’s new initiatives.
Following a presentation by Stockholm Åre 2026 bid chief Richard Brisius, Årjes – who is currently present in Åre at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, explained why he feels that the Swedish campaign to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is such a strong proposition.
“We are able to offer what the International Olympic Committee has asked for,” said Årjes. “We have more or less all infrastructure already in place, lots of modern arenas and lots of experience of major events.”
Årjes also welcomed the positive interest in the Olympics and Paralympics Winter Games bid shown by the new Swedish Prime Minister and his team.
“It means a lot,” he explained.
“The Prime Minister and Sports Minister visited the World Championships here in Åre. They both seem very interested and positive to our bid and what we’re doing at the moment so hopefully we’ll soon be able to announce more.”
