Magic Olympic Moments: Hellner’s powerful finish gives Sweden first relay gold in 22 years

24 February 2010: Remember where you were on this day?

Maybe not, but here’s a clue – it became a historic day for Swedish cross-country skiing.

Yep, it’s the day that Daniel Rikardsson, Johan Olsson, Anders Södergren and not least Marcus Hellner won Olympic ski relay gold in Vancouver.

Norwegian Petter Northug hunted behind – and pushed hard to get on the podium, but could only finish second behind the Swedish hero.

Hellner impressively withstood the pressure to claim Sweden’s first Olympic ski relay gold in 22 years.
